How to Install an Electric Hob in a Worktop

Coronavirus (COVID-19): a note to our customers

We're still delivering to our customers safely by follow social distancing guidelines, and we would appreciate it if you could work with us to do the same upon delivery and throughout any installation service by keeping your distance and waiting in another room. We recommend that you clean surfaces and handles once any installation is completed as an extra precaution. Drivers have been given gloves and facemasks and are encouraged to wear them – if your driver isn't then please feel free to ask them to wear them.

Our fully trained team will get your new electric hob set up and ready to use for just £100. We'll even disconnect your old hob. We're fully approved by the NICEIC. Who? Only the UK's leading electrical assessor – so you know our standards are high. Find out everything about this service and what you can do to get ready for us.

What we'll do

If you've selected our connection service for your new appliance, we'll happily disconnect your old one for you.

When we arrive, we'll unpack your electric hob and disconnect your old one. Don't worry about cables. We'll bring everything we need to get your new hob installed.

We'll take at least 8 pictures during installation, just so we've got a record of the service.

Gone with our Remove & Recycle service? We'll take away your old hob when we leave.

What you need to do

The space around your hob is called the Hot Zone and you need to make sure it's free from switches, cooker hoods, and anything flammable (wallpaper for example). There needs to be a gap of at least 65cm between your hob and the cooker hood or ceiling. If the Hot Zone isn't clear of hazards, we might not be able to install.

Make sure your current electrical connection (plug socket or big red switch) matches what your new hob needs. If your new hob is over 3kw, then you'll need a 16Amp or 32Amp fuse - a big red switch. If your new hob is below 3kw, then you'll only need a standard 12Amp fuse – a regular plug socket. Compare what you have with the details of your new hob on the Key Information tab on our product pages to make sure you're all set.

While you're on the Key Information section on our product pages, it's worth checking the dimensions of your new hob, just to make sure you've got enough space in your kitchen.

Switching from a gas hob? No worries. We'll send along one of our Gas Safe engineers to make sure your new electric hob is installed properly. You can let us know that you're switching from gas at the checkout.

What we don't cover

Here's everything our installation service doesn't cover.

  • We can make small adjustments like changing cables or switches to fit your hob, but we won't remove anything in the Hot Zone or change any other part of your home.
  • Installation for cooking products is only available on certain days in certain postcodes. Find out what dates are available for you at the checkout.
