5 fixes for Windows 10 won't wake up from sleep issue

Before troubleshooting, you might have to LONG PRESS the power button for your computer to completely shut down, then press the power button again for it to boot up. Be sure to always shut down your PC the normal way unless you have to.

Here're 5 fixes that have helped other users resolve their problem. Just work your way down the list until this Windows 10 not waking up from sleep problem is solved:

  1. Allow your keyboard and mouse to wake up your PC
  2. Update your device drivers
  3. Turn off fast startup
  4. Re-enable hibernation
  5. Tweak power settings

Fix 1: Allow your keyboard and mouse to wake up your PC

Sometimes your computer will not wake up from sleep mode simply because your keyboard or mouse has been prevented from doing so. To allow your keyboard and mouse to wake up your PC:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time, then type devmgmt.msc into the box and press Enter.
  2. Double-click on Keyboards > your keyboard device.
  3. Click Power Management and check the box before Allow this device to wake the computer and then click OK.
  4. Repeat this fix on your mouse device(usually under the category of mice and other pointing devices).
  5. Sleep your PC and wake it up later and check if this Windows 10 won t wake from sleep problem gets resolved.

Fix 2: Update your device drivers

Fix 4: Re-enable hibernation

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key  and type cmd. Then click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.


    Click Yes when prompted with a User Account Control window.

  2. Type powercfg.exe /hibernate off && powercfg.exe /hibernate on and press Enter.
  3. Again, try to put your PC to sleep and wake it up to see if it functions properly. If yes, then you've resolved the issue! If it's still not waking up, you should try Fix 5, below.

Fix 5: Tweak power settings

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time, then typepowercfg.cpl into the box and press Enter.
  2. Click the chosen power plan and click Change plan settings.
  3. ClickChange advanced power settings.
  4. Double-click on Sleep, then set Allow hybrid sleep in Off and setAllow wake timers to Enable.
  5. Click Apply > OK.
  6. Restart your computer, test on your machine again and see if it wakes up without fail.
